Dr A. Sakthivel has been elected Chairman of the Apparel
Export Promotion Council for an unprecedented fifth consecutive term, marking a
historic moment for India’s apparel export sector. The re-election reflects
strong confidence from industry stakeholders in his leadership and long-standing
contribution to strengthening India’s global apparel presence.
Under his stewardship, AEPC has played a pivotal role in
market diversification, trade negotiations, sustainability adoption and policy
advocacy. India’s apparel exports crossed US$ 16 billion in FY 2024 despite
global headwinds, supported by focused engagement in key markets such as the
United States, European Union and emerging regions. Industry leaders’ credit
consistent leadership at AEPC as a stabilising factor during volatile demand
cycles and supply chain disruptions.
The Tiruppur Exporters Association has extended warm
congratulations to Dr Sakthivel, acknowledging his visionary approach,
inclusive leadership style and commitment to exporters across clusters. KM Subramanian,
President of TEA, noted that his continued guidance will remain vital as the
industry targets higher value addition, compliance alignment and scale
expansion. The renewed mandate comes at a critical juncture as India aims to
strengthen competitiveness and move steadily towards higher apparel export
milestones.
