India Announces Major Reforms To Quality And Import-Check Systems

India has announced a new set of reforms to strengthen its quality ecosystem and simplify import-quality checks. The reforms were unveiled by the Quality Council of India on 24 December 2025 and aim to modernise quality regulation across sectors.

A key step is the launch of “Q Mark – Desh ka Haq”, a national quality mark linked to a QR code. Consumers and regulators will be able to digitally verify certifications and accredited entities, improving transparency and trust.

The reforms also focus on making compliance easier. Paperwork will be reduced. Approval timelines will be shorter. Certification inspections will be fewer. Several existing portals will be merged into one single digital accreditation platform. New grievance-redress systems will be added. The government will also expand the pool of assessors, lower entry barriers for certification bodies, and support small businesses in meeting quality standards.

Alongside this, India has announced import-quality check reforms. These include less documentation, faster inspections, and wider use of digital tools. The goal is to make imports smoother while maintaining quality and safety controls.
