Fashion for Good has intensified efforts to close the loop
in synthetic textiles through its Full Circle Textiles Project focused on
polyester. The initiative aims to validate and scale chemical recycling
technologies that convert post-consumer textile waste into virgin quality
polyester, a step seen as critical to cutting dependence on fossil based raw
materials.
Polyester accounts for nearly 52% of global fibre
consumption, yet a large share of textile waste still ends up in landfills or
incineration streams. Chemical recycling is positioned as a key solution since
it can process a wider mix of textile waste and deliver output comparable to
virgin fibre.
The project, launched in September 2021, brings together
global brands such as adidas, C&A, PVH Corp., Target, and Zalando alongside
innovators including CuRe Technology, Syre, BlockTexx, and Gr3n. Industry
partners like Arvind and Teijin are also involved in validating recycled
outputs for commercial use.
The collaboration seeks to unlock financing, secure long
term offtake commitments, and accelerate commercial scale recycling, marking a
decisive step toward circular polyester supply chains.
