Bangladesh Garment Workers Score Historic Union Win

Garment workers at Fashion Pulse in Bangladesh have formed the country’s first union under recently amended labour laws, giving them the legal right to bargain for better wages and safer workplaces. With support from BIGUF and the Solidarity Center, 160 workers in the Gazipur industrial zone navigated complex registration requirements, overcoming government hurdles. The union, Fashion Pulse Limited Sramik Union, marks a milestone in empowering workers in a sector that drives over 80% of Bangladesh’s exports. Leaders now aim to expand membership, strengthen collective bargaining, and secure fair pay, demonstrating how legal reforms can translate into real workplace rights.
