Clariant Executive Koji Ito Elected Chairman of Japan’s Catalyst Manufacturers Association

Clariant has strengthened its position in Japan’s chemical and catalyst industry after Koji Ito, President and Representative Director of Clariant Japan and Clariant Catalysts Japan, was elected Chairman of the Catalyst Manufacturers Association Japan (CMAJ). The appointment is widely regarded as a significant milestone, given that the position has traditionally been held by senior leaders from Japanese companies.

The development reflects Clariant’s long standing presence and strong industry relationships in one of the world’s most advanced chemical manufacturing markets. Industry stakeholders expect the leadership transition to support greater collaboration on critical priorities such as carbon neutrality, sustainable industrial growth and catalyst innovation.

Catalysts remain central to modern manufacturing, enabling efficient production across petrochemicals, energy, refining and specialty chemicals. Global demand continues to rise as industries accelerate decarbonisation and resource efficiency initiatives.

Ito stated that he aims to work closely with industry partners to advance Japan’s catalyst sector while contributing to broader societal and sustainability goals across Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
