India has imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty of US$200.66 per metric tonne on imports of bottle grade virgin PET resin from China for a period of five years, reinforcing protection for domestic producers against low priced imports. The decision follows a sunset review conducted by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies, which found continued dumping, significant price undercutting, and material injury to Indian manufacturers.
The duty applies to bottle grade PET resin having intrinsic viscosity of 0.72 dl/g or higher and covers imports originating in or exported from China. Recycled PET remains outside the scope of the measure.
PET resin is a critical raw material used in beverage bottles, food packaging, technical textiles, and polyester value chains. Industry observers believe the move could stabilize domestic pricing and improve capacity utilization among Indian producers. India remains one of the world's fastest growing PET consumption markets, supported by rising demand from packaging, beverages, and polyester sectors.
The notification takes effect immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette and will remain valid unless amended or revoked earlier.
