Wool Research Association Secures Patent For Lightweight High Impact Resistant Sports Innovation

The Wool Research Association (WRA) has secured an Indian patent for an innovative lightweight and high impact resistant sports product, reinforcing India's growing capabilities in technical textiles and advanced sports engineering. Granted by the Indian Patent Office on 16 June 2026, the patent is valid for 20 years from the filing date of 16 February 2023.

The invention has been developed by Dr. Mrinal Rajesh Choudhari, Dr. Swati Aniket Mahadik, and Dinesh Sanjeev Marewad. It addresses a critical industry requirement by combining enhanced impact protection, reduced weight and improved durability, offering significant potential for next generation sports equipment.

Announcing the achievement, Dr. Mrinal Choudhari, Additional Director, Wool Research Association, said, "This breakthrough combines superior protection, lightweight performance, and durability, addressing a key challenge in sports equipment design. The achievement reflects WRA's commitment to advancing innovation in technical textiles and sports technology."

The development also highlights WRA's expanding research portfolio under the guidance of Director General Harish Chatterjee, supporting India's ambition to emerge as a global hub for high performance technical textile innovation.
