The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters
Association signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding alongside the
Bangladesh Industrial Development and Engineering Company on August 20 2026.
The agreement aims to promote an innovative patented technology designed to
convert conventional capacitor ceiling fans into modern brushless direct
current fans. This local innovation arrives at a critical juncture when the
domestic apparel sector faces severe pressure from an ongoing national gas
crisis. The manufacturing industry must urgently adopt sustainable solutions to
maintain global competitiveness.
Vidiya Amrit Khan serves as the Vice President of the trade
association and signed the official document in Dhaka alongside BIDEC Chief
Executive Officer Kazi Mohammad Ibrahim. The strategic partnership directly
connects member garment factories with practical upcycling technology to
optimize energy usage and reduce overall electricity consumption. Utilizing
domestic engineering solutions provides a clear pathway to strengthen
sustainable industrial development nationwide.
The manufacturing association spent several months
rigorously assessing the mechanical technology before formalizing this
agreement. Field trials conducted across more than 42 different garment
factories revealed remarkable efficiency improvements ranging from 47% to 65%.
These practical factory level results provided immense confidence regarding the
widespread potential of this domestic initiative.
Member factories will receive special discounted pricing to
implement these upcycled brushless direct current fans under the new
partnership guidelines. The upgraded machinery includes a comprehensive
five-year guarantee ensuring operational reliability. Participating factories
can expect a highly feasible financial payback period of around 1.5 to 2 years
based on observed efficiency gains.
Shah Rayeed Chowdhury holds the position of Director at the
garment association and highlighted the economic realities driving this
transition. Chowdhury stated, "Energy efficiency is no longer only an
environmental issue; it is increasingly a business and competitiveness issue
for our factories. If a practical local technology can deliver 50% or more
efficiency improvement, and a potential 1.5-to-2-year payback, it becomes a
very relevant solution for our members."
The initiative perfectly aligns with the broader transition
of the readymade garment industry toward complete decarbonization and
competitive resource efficiency. Lowering electricity consumption across
hundreds of massive production facilities will significantly ease the heavy
operational burdens placed upon the national power grid. Reduced overhead costs
