Kelheim Fibres to illustrate innovative viscose usage at the 54th Dornbirn Man-Made Fiber Congress

The 54thDornbirn Man-Made Fiber Congress, scheduled to be held between September 16-18 will primarily focus on the topics of sustainability and health, technological innovation and new functionalities. Kelheim Fibres, the leading producer of viscose specialty fibres will present the company’s latest R&D findings at the Congress.

Experts from Kelheim Fibres will throw light on a variety of new usages for viscose and will thereby elaborate their functional benefits in the applied field. Viscose fibres can be used as a precursor for the production of carbon fibres. Kelheim Fibres will show how the carbonisation of viscose fibres of different shapes and sizes with various functionalised additives incorporated in the fibres enables an amplification of possible structures. Apart from that viscose fibres do form very stable barrier layers and show a low smoke emission. These the company believes will open up newer usage prospects in the industry.

A viscose fibre with incorporated IR-reflecting particles can reflect thermal radiation, released from the human body. The wearer feels the advantage from this thermal retention function as well as from the viscose fibres’ typical properties (e.g. softness).

On the other hand a high performance functional fibre developed by Kelheim Fibres and its long-standing partner Outlast Technologies, is a filling fibre for insulation textiles, such as bedding articles or outdoor apparel, which – in a combination with other filling materials such as downs – is said to enable an active temperature management by the PCMs incorporated in the fibre.
