Nanshan Corporation Explores Innovation With Tasmanian Wool

The Chinese wool textile firm Nanshan Corporation is all set to broaden its market with unique textiles and designs. As an attempt towards innovation, the group is collaborating with Australia's wool industry to bring new merchandise to the market. Senior managers from the Nanshan Fabric and Garment Company were in Australia to work on the joint venture plans with Australian Wool Innovation (AWI). Diversifying from the traditional men's suiting fabric to fashions for women ensured Nanshen to work towards casual finishes. Now with the wool development pilot plant in Nanshan, innovations can be tried out very quickly and inexpensively. The Nanshan pilot plant and woollen mills are at Yantai in Shandong province on China's east coast. The wool processing business' annual output of 6,000 tonnes of 14 to 23 micron wool fabric and branded products makes it the third largest wool manufacturer in the world.

Also as a part of the innovation project the Nanshan delegation spent two days visiting farms in Tasmania, the Ross Wool Centre and a shearing shed near Oatlands. Nanshan Wool processing mill General Manager, Wang Sheng said it was his first visit to Tasmania to see the source of the wool. "The purpose is to understand the upstream production, how they manage the farm and the history of the farm," Wang confirmed. They are planning to speak to their customers to make them aware of wool. And they are on the look out to set up a direct business with the growers, if their production meets Nanshan’s requirements.
