India Must Draft New Textile Policy Taking New Realities Into Account: Orissa Minister

Orissa’s Industries Minister Debi Prasad Mishra has stated that India must draft a new textile policy which takes into account the recent progress made in the sector by other Asian countries like Bangladesh, Myanmar as well as Vietnam.

 

Mishra said that there is a need to promote innovation in process and technology, creation of a skilled pool of manpower as well as necessary support from the central government in order to improve India’s textile sector.

 

He made the statement while addressing the inaugural session of the International Conference on Textiles and Apparel (Texcon 2016) organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at New Delhi, recently.

 

He spoke about various incentives and measures announced by the Orissa government to promote the textile industry, and released the CII-Wazir Advisors Theme Paper titled ‘Global Competitiveness and Trade Growth Paradigms for the Indian Textile and Apparel Sector’.

 

CII National Committee on Textiles Sachit Jain delivered the welcome address while Wazir Advisors Pvt Ltd’s Prasant Agarwal and Chairman CII Texcon-2016 R D Udeshi made the theme presentation as well as delivered the keynote address.

 

Orissa’s Principal Secretary in the Industries Department Sanjiv Chopra presented the policy framework, ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiatives as well as details of the Ramdaspur Textile Park and the Bhadrak Apparel Park being developed by the Orissa state government.

 

Later during the day, the minister, along with the Principal Secretary as well as other government officials met potential investors in textile and apparel sector.
