India Is The Lead Importer Of US Pima Cotton For 2016-17

There were 5,900 new net sales of US pima reported for the week (November 17) versus 13,000 bales in sales the previous week. Currently registered export sales for the 2016/17 crop year total 388,700 bales. This level of sales is 247.7% of the sales level at the same time last year when 156,900 bales in sales had already been registered. Current shipments stand at 156.9% of last year with 145,500 bales shipped versus 96,700 bales shipped at the same time last year.

There were 6,100 bales in new purchases made to India (3,400), Thailand (2,000), Pakistan (400), Korea (200) and Mexico (100). There were 100 bales in destination changes this past week from Colombia (-100) to Turkey (-90). There were 200 bales in cancellations this past week from India (-200).

US export shipments last week totaled 12,300 bales versus 16,400 bales the previous week. Shipments went to India (5,600), China (4,900), Pakistan (1,400), Japan (300), Colombia (200) and Turkey (100).

The top five leading importers for the 2016/17 crop year are led by India with purchases of 189,700 bales. China, Pakistan, Egypt, and Peru round out the top five with purchases of 75,200 bales, 42,200 bales, 22,200 bales and 10,300 bales respectively. These five nations account for 87.4% of all the export-based purchases of US Pima made to date this year.

There were no new forward sales reported this week. The current new crop sales totals stand at 0 and 0 bales respectively for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 years.
