NTC to become world class textile company: Textile Minister

Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran on Wednesday said the government is committed to make the National Textile Corporation (NTC), a world-class eco-friendly integrated textile company and flag-bearer of the sector and the ongoing revival-cum-modernisation steps by the NTC are aimed at this goal. Speaking after releasing the inaugural issue of newsletter of the NTC at his Chamber here, Maran said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government had launched a number of schemes such as Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) and various measures for the powerloom, handloom, handicrafts, silk and wool sectors for the overall development of the textile sector and welfare of the weavers and artisans. "The NTC is a key player in the sector and hence revival of the NTC is also one of the key agendas of the government for the textile sector by transforming it into an integrated company capable of addressing the clothing needs of the nation. We have hence launched the historic e-auctions which brought a total of Rs 2133 crore so far in four online biddings," said Maran. "The NTC has made a turn-around within a short span to emerge as a debt-free company with a highly competitive revival strategy. This newsletter will be the right tool to communicate with the outside world on its endeavours, business model and achievements, while strengthening the bonds within and rekindling the passion for growth," he added. The first newsletter of the NTC has included the major achievement of the company during the last one-year, besides carrying the news and pictures of the in-house developments in the recent past. On the occasion, Textiles' Secretary, Rita Menon and NTC Chairman-cum-Managing Director K Ramachandran Pillai were among those who attended the function.
