Fifteen Indian textile companies are participating in the 60th edition of the ‘Cairo Fashion & Tex’ exhibition which is being held in Egypt from March 2 to March 5.
The Indian pavilion has been organised by the Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) and sponsored by the Government of India in association with the Embassy of India in Cairo, according to textile industry sources.
"India has been an active participant of exhibition every year. We believe that our co-operation in the textile sector is very important," India’s Ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya said during a recent press conference.
India is one of the largest producers of cotton in the world and that Indian cotton and textile are very popular internationally.
The Indian pavilion at the exhibition is being organised by the Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) and sponsored by Government of India in association with the Embassy of India in Cairo.
Indian companies have showcased their latest range of yarn and fabrics, including suiting, shirting, dress materials as well as embroidered fabrics, high fashion fabrics, furnishing, home textiles, scarves, stoles, shawls and yarns of man-made fibre and their blends.
The Indian ambassador said that the unique thing about the Indian textile sector is that it ic capable of supplying both high and low-end textile items in both small quantities or large volumes.
India, which is the world’s second largest producer of synthetic fibre, yarn, cotton, cellulosic fibre as well as silk, exported around US$ 297 million worth of textile and clothing products to Egypt during 2016.
Cotton yarn was the dominant component of the export basket, which is valued at US$ 143 million, followed by manmade yarn fabrics valued at US$ 105 million and cotton fabrics valued at US$ 21 million.
TEXPROCIL’s Joint Director Shailesh Martis said that the Indian delegation is participating this year to explore as well as test the demand of the Egyptian market. "This year we are here to explore and test. Next year we will bring the kind of products that Egypt requires," he said.
