Amity School of Fashion Technology conducted its annual seminar in mid-September 2017 with a galaxy of national and international industry stalwarts in full attendance at the campus premises. The seminar was attended by people across fashion fraternity like retail fashioners, brand representatives, fashion institutes, apparel export organizations, fashion styling experts, and designers among others.
The diverse faculty addressed the under graduate and post graduate students of the Amity School of Fashion Technology (ASFT). The focus area of the lectures was “Expectation of the fashion industry from young professionals”.
Dr Pradeep Joshi, Director General Amity Directorate of Applied Arts, Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Visual arts in his inaugural address said, “The importance of industry linked interactive activities cannot be over-emphasized. Fashion industry members must support the field of fashion education by actively participating in Talk-Shows, conferences, seminars, industry visits and so on.”
The distinguished industry speakers present on the occasion were Aamer Zakir, Iranian Celebrity Entrepreneur, Columnist, Fashion Stylist, Make-Over & Grooming Expert; Dhruv Garg, CEO, Stanmax; Himanshu Badlia, Marketing-North, Max Retail Division; Parveen Tyagi, GM-Retail & Distribution, Mother Care, DLF Brands Ltd; Prem Narayan Singh, Wet Processing Manager, Gap Inc; Vandana Dewan, Accessory Designer and Yashica Kakkar, Fashion Stylist.
Parveen Tyagi, GM-Retail & Distribution, Mother Care, DLF Brands Ltdcommenced the Seminar by giving an overview of the Fashion Retail Industry in India. He outlined the specific qualities required by a fashion retail professional.
Dhruv Garg, CEO, Stanmax emphasized the need to be ambitious, dream big and then chase one’s dreams. He quoted the case of Stanmax, his family business, where he is the third generation entrepreneur.
Prem Narayan Singh, Wet Processing Manager, Gap Inc.mentioned as to how the world has become a small global village, where organizations from different countries interact with each other in a mutually beneficial relationship.
Vandana Dewan, accessory designer spelt out the various skills and knowledge levels that should be imbibed by the budding designers of tomorrow in the ever evolving and constantly dynamic competitive environment.
Yashica Kakkar, fashion stylist highlighted the need for creativity in fashion styling and how a person can make a mark in this ever evolving field.
Himanshu Badlia, Marketing-North, Max Retail Divisionspokeabout the developments taking place in India and abroad in the field of Fashion Retail and what the future holds for this industry.
Aamer Zakir, Iranian Celebrity Entrepreneur, Columnist, Fashion Stylist, Make-Over & Grooming Expertenthralled the audience with anecdotes of college life. The address then laid emphasis on the need to listen carefully, observe minutely and participate creatively in order to succeed in the Fashion Industry.
John Jicha, Professor, School of Art and Design, Western Carolina University (WCU), USAinteracted with the students. Supported by his knowledge, acquired by travelling to different countries and wide experience, Jicha spoke to the students about the need to excel in their chosen fields. He shared with the ASFT students some of the work put up by his students and the audience marveled at the efforts.
The students of various under graduate and post graduate programs of ASFT attended this seminar, interacted enthusiastically with the industry speakers and gained tremendously from this student-industry interface.
