CMAI Hosts India’s Largest Garment Fair In Mumbai

The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) recently conducted India’s largest apparel trade show at Bombay Exhibition Centre, NSE Complex, Goregaon (E) in Mumbai from 10th July to 12th July 2017. It was the 65th Natioanl Garment Fair.

The B2B fair was inaugurated by Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani who also released the show directory on the eve of the event. The other prominent dignitaries gracing the event were Kavita Gupta, Textile Commissioner, Sanjay Lalbhai, Chairman Arvind Group and Kishore Biyani, CEO of Future Group.

The event  was sponsored by ‘Bhumi World Industrial Park’ which is the fastest growing integrated industrial hub in Bhiwandi that provides support to the garment industry throughout Maharashtra for their manufacturing activities.

The fair occupied a sprawling complex area of six lakh square feet and engaged all the halls at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. It attracted 1005 brands from 822 exhibitors, earmarking an unprecedented level of participation.

The stalls were categorized into four zones namely, men’s wear, women’s wear, kid’s wear and accessories. In terms of participation it has acquired the status of India’s largest ever garment fair, with estimated attendee strength of 50,000 retailers from all over India.

The fair also hosted business networking sessions that addressed the concerns of agents and distributors; high street retailers; and national chain stores and e-commerce companies.

Speaking on the occasion, CMAI president Rahul Mehta welcomed the arrival of the GST era in the textile industry. He however, demanded that the government reduce the GST applicable for job works and made up garments from 18% to 5%. “Levy of 18% GST would be a major blow to the smaller manufacturers as they mostly follow the job work basis of manufacturing,” he observed.
