Asian Acrylic Markets quiet

Acrylonitrile (ACN)

Acrylonitrile markets were quiet in Asia as many participants were yet to return after Lunar New Year holiday. In China, downstream demand was weak with acrylamide makers operating at low rate while ABS market was lukewarm amid cautious buying interest. Acrylic fiber suppliers ran with 55%, with some lines still down. ACN marker, the CFR Far East was steady for the three straight weeks at US$1,929-1,931 metric ton and CFR SE Asia up US$30 at US$1,879-1,881 metric ton. Offers in India were at US$1,850-1,900 metric ton CFR. In US, ACN spot prices rose US$15 at US$1,800-1,810 metric ton FOB USG, pressured higher by tight global supply and building demand.

ASF

Acrylic staple fibre markets in Asia were quiet but prices were hiked significantly at upper end due to rise in acrylonitrile cost. In China, most downstream yarn mills were still in their holiday mood, leaving units idled, and thus demand for ASF remained inactive. Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers were hiked US cents 10-12 to US$2.22-2.30 per kg while in China, medium-length fibre and cotton-type staple offers were raised US cents 15 on the upper end to US$2.42-2.90 per kg. ASF offers in India rolled over at INR174 -177 per kg (US$2.68-2.72 per kg) after a hike in the first fortnight due to rising cost.
