Indian Cotton Exports Looking Up With Soar In Global Cotton Prices

Atul Ganatra, Cotton Association of India (CAI) President sounded a positive note for Indian cotton exports upwardly revising the estimates. Stating that the figures of exports are filing up by 9 to 10 percent he disclosed that this was a four year high for the Indian textiles.  This was partly attributed to the rise in international cotton prices in recent times.

Indian exports with augmentation of supply are likely to compete favorably with the exports to Asia from Australia, Brazil, and the United States.

The Asian textile hubs from Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan have begun buying heavily from India at lower prices disclosed an industry source. Besides, lower prices, India enjoys a freight advantage over these countries owing to proximity in the Asian region.

As compared to 90 cents per lb pricing from United States and Brazil prices of Indian cotton were in the lower range of 82 to 85 cents per lb that too on a costs and freight basis. The Indian pricing was accessible to Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Atul Ganatra on a concluding note observed that India’s cotton exports at favorable prices were aided by sustainable and continuous demand.
