Tamta Tells Parliament 21 E-commerce Platforms Set Up To Market Handloom Products

In a statement issued in parliament in response to a query, the textile ministry disclosed that it has deployed 21 e-commerce companies till now for online marketing of handloom products.

 

The query was raised in the Upper House to which Ajay Tamta, ministry of state for textiles replied, a policy framework has been designed to promote e-marketing of handloom products. “Under this framework, e-commerce platforms that have good track records and willing to partake can do so in the online marketing process. The response was submitted in the written format.

 

Tamta further added, "So far, this ministry has engaged 21 e-commerce entities for online marketing of handloom products. As on December 31, 2017, INR 9.54 crore sales were generated by web portals.

 

In response to a separate query, Tamta disclosed that as on December 31, 2017, there were 3,546 textile mills in the country and a total number of 56 mills have been closed during the past three years.
