Surat Textile Traders Go Tough On Pak Post Pulwama Massacre

Surat-based textile exporters of man-made fibers have proactively taken measures to economically isolate Pakistan in the trade circles after the Pulwama attack in Kashmir, in which 40 CRPF jawans collapsed. Directly affected by this move are two major fabric markets in Pakistan, namely Azam cloth market in Lahore and Lucknow market in Karachi. These two major outlets depend on the Surat exporters for polyester fabrics, saris, lenghas, and dupattas. In fact, shops in these localities selling fabrics used made in Surat as a brand emblem. Surat traders expressed the sentiment that the small traders who purchase cheap material from the Surat market and sell it after performing value addition will be finished and left stranded without any options. India apart, there are foreign traders who have joined the fray of economic isolation and going tough on Pakistan after the Pulwama attack. The visible signs of this happening unfolded, when an American company shut down their sales office in Pakistan, following a request coming forth from leading Surat traders. A major exporter from Surat, Gondalia Textile Exports reported that following the attack at Pulwama, trade worth Rs. 4 crore on an annual basis was cut off.
