India: 'For Banswara, technical textiles is a strategic business unit'

How was Techtextil India 2013 for Banswara?

It has been a good show. There was a lot of interest in our products, we received a lot of enquiries. This was especially so for laminated fabrics.

How do you perceive the Indian technical textiles market?

In terms of achieving maturity, what happened in developed countries, will happen here too. Only here, people expect it to happen at a much faster rate. We believe that the Indian technical textile market may not be growing to its full potential now, but will do so as the market matures.

For Banswara, technical textiles is a strategic business unit. We started manufacturing automotive textiles last year. We have been manufacturing 3-layer laminated fabrics for the last 5-6 years, we are also into FR treated fabrics.

Domestic or exports, which is a better market for Banswara?

We are primarily into the domestic market. We export the bags and shoes fabrics. Laminated fabrics business in India is going strong, mainly because you can integrate multiple usages by fabric lamination.

Would you say cost of technology is a deterrent to growth of the Indian industry?

Cost of technology is relative. If you have a market that can pay for it, then the technology is not expensive. The market has not matured, and hence technology appears to be expensive. Once the market grows to its potential, that will not be the case.
