India: Textiles Committee celebrates 50 years of service

At the Golden Jubilee Year of Textiles Committee, Union Minister of Textiles, KS Rao lauded the contribution made by Textiles Committee to the growth of textile industry of the country during the last fifty years in a function in Mumbai on 11th October.

 

The Minister congratulated the organization and urged that it has to undertake more proactive work in the areas such as skill development for providing quality manpower to the industry besides generating employment opportunities for the country and supporting exporting industry. He was of the opinion that the development of this sector as well as the economy is possible, when organizations like Textiles Committee undertakes more and more research and development in the areas of new products, technology and testing facilities.

 

Among the other dignitaries, Panabaaaka Lakshmi, Hon’ble Minister for States of Textiles, and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Zohra Chatterji, Secretary(Textiles), S.P. Oswal, Chairman, Textiles Committee, A.B. Joshi, Textile Commissioner & Vice-Chairman, Textiles Committee were present on the occasion.

 

Minister of States for Textiles Panabaaka Lakshmi, congratulated the Textiles Committee and recounted the contributions made by it in the area of quality and compliance, market analysis and also providing appropriate testing services to the industry. She was of the opinion that the contribution of the Committee in terms of Handloom Mark implementation and Total Quality Management, Star rating of ginning and pressing factories is also remarkable. On the occasion, she also launched the Textiles Committee new website and website of Laboratory Management Information System (LIMS) and Star Rating of Ginning & Pressing Factories.

 

The Committee also felicitated B.C. Khatua and Subodh Kumar, former Textile Commissioner & Vice-Chairman, Textiles Committee and R.C.M. Reddy and Pradeep Gupta, Former Secretary, Textiles Committee for their remarkable contributions to the organization. KS Raoalso released the Coffee Table Book “A Journey of Growth through Transformation & Commitment”, a special Postal Envelope, Market Intelligence in Textiles and Exquisite Handwovens Textiles of Kerala on the occasion.

 

He was of the opinion that India can excel in the field of research and development, when the people having expertise are adequately compensated through productive linked incentives. It not only motivates the researchers already in the job but also attract young talents to the areas of research. He called upon the Textiles Committee, to devise appropriate strategy to motivate the researchers working in this area through appropriate means and submit to the Ministry for appropriate action. 

 

S. P. Oswal, Chairman of Textiles Committee (also of Vardhman Group) has briefed about the organizations goals and activities planned for short and medium terms and acclaimed its metamorphosis to a service provider of the textile industry. P Nayak, Secretary, Textiles Committee delivered vote of thanks.
