Anjani Prasad, Global Head of Innovation for Dyes and
Speciality Chemicals at Archroma and a prominent voice across India’s textile
innovation landscape, underscored the country’s growing capabilities in coated
and laminated textiles during a panel discussion at the Technical Textiles
Conference at Techtextil India 2025. The session explored pathways to
accelerate performance, compliance and technology uptake in one of the fastest
expanding segments of technical textiles.
Prasad highlighted a decisive shift in coating and
lamination technologies. The category has moved far beyond basic waterproofing
into engineered systems that offer breathability, chemical resistance, barrier
protection, UV stability, antimicrobial functionality and extended durability.
He stressed that global buyers increasingly expect these attributes to be
achieved through sustainable, PFAS free and low VOC chemistries, a demand that
India’s supply chain is now equipped to meet. India’s advancements in PU and
acrylic systems, adhesion technologies, flame retardant finishes, and high
light fastness solutions for automotive applications were acknowledged as
strengths that can position the country competitively in defence, medical,
filtration, hygiene and outdoor categories.
Prasad also emphasised the need for advanced testing
infrastructure and adherence to global performance standards to ensure industry
wide adoption. The panel, moderated by Avinash Misar, brought together experts
including Narendra Kajale and J R Mehta. Prasad commended ITTA for organising a
focused and timely discussion and reiterated Archroma’s commitment to
co-developing safe, efficient and high-performance solutions. He noted that
India’s future advantage will be shaped not by cost, but by technology, compliance
and speed.
