Kanpur Plastipack And Essegomma Form Joint Venture To Scale Technical Polypropylene Yarn Capacity

Kanpur Plastipack Limited announced a strategic joint venture with Italy based Essegomma S.p.A to manufacture high performance technical polypropylene yarns in India. The partnership marks a significant step in advancing India’s capabilities in specialised industrial yarns that serve sectors such as geotextiles, automotive, filtration, flexible packaging and high strength industrial fabrics.

The new venture is expected to leverage Kanpur Plastipack’s strong foundation in woven technical textiles and Essegomma’s long standing expertise in advanced yarn technology. Industry executives indicate that the demand for technical PP yarns has been expanding steadily in India at more than 8% annually, driven by growing investments in infrastructure, automotive components, agro textiles and industrial applications. The collaboration aims to bring European grade technology, consistent quality and enhanced tensile performance into India’s technical yarn market.

The project is also expected to support India’s broader push towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in the technical textiles value chain. Technical yarn manufacturing continues to be an area that requires high precision, polymer engineering and strong process control. The venture will help reduce import dependence and strengthen India’s positioning in global supply chains where PP based high performance yarns are widely used.

Executives from both companies expressed confidence that the joint venture will accelerate innovation, expand market access and create a strong platform for long term growth in specialised polypropylene yarns.
