National Textiles Ministers’ Conference Opens In Guwahati To Chart Future Roadmap

The two-day National Textiles Ministers’ Conference began in Guwahati on Thursday (8 January, 2025), bringing together textile ministers and senior officials from States and Union Territories to deliberate on the future direction of India’s textile sector. Organised by the Ministry of Textiles, the conference is being held under the theme “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage and Innovation”.

Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh said the Centre is working in a balanced manner to align production, exports, and sustainability across the textile value chain. He urged States and Union Territories to frame investor friendly policies and attract higher investments at the local level. He also highlighted the government’s focus on accelerating infrastructure and industrial development in the Northeastern region.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said India’s textile industry is expanding rapidly and stressed the need to connect the artistic skills of Indian craftsmen to global markets. Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita said the conference would help build a coordinated roadmap to strengthen India’s global textile presence. He reiterated the national target of building a US$350 billion textile economy and noted that the Northeast contributes nearly 52% of India’s handloom production.
