Tamil Nadu has taken a decisive step to strengthen its
position in the global technical textiles landscape. Messe Frankfurt Trade
Fairs India has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the
Department of Textiles and Guidance Tamil Nadu to launch the Techtextil India
Summit in Coimbatore. The summit is scheduled to debut on 26 and 27 November
2026 at CODISSIA and will be held every alternate year.
The collaboration aims to create a high impact knowledge and
networking platform focused on technical textiles, nonwovens and composites.
Tamil Nadu already accounts for over 35% of India’s textile and apparel
production and hosts one of the country’s largest clusters of spinning,
knitting and processing units. Industry estimates place India’s technical
textiles market at over US$22 billion, growing at a compound annual growth rate
of nearly 10%, driven by demand from infrastructure, healthcare, mobility and
sustainability focused applications.
The Coimbatore summit is expected to strengthen industry
academia linkages, support MSME participation and attract global technology
providers and investors. Policy level backing from the state government is
likely to accelerate adoption of advanced materials, functional textiles and
high value manufacturing. Stakeholders such as research institutions,
universities and sectoral agencies will play a key role in shaping the event’s
technical depth and commercial relevance. The initiative reinforces Tamil Nadu’s
ambition to move up the textile value chain and emerge as a national hub for
next generation technical textile solutions.
