Bangladesh’s garment and textile sector has intensified its sustainability
push after Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA)
signed a strategic MoU with IVY Decarb Marketplace SL to accelerate industrial
decarbonisation and energy efficiency adoption across factories. The
collaboration aims to modernise production systems, reduce carbon emissions,
and improve operational productivity in one of the world’s largest apparel
sourcing hubs.
The partnership arrives at a crucial time when global brands
are tightening ESG and climate compliance requirements across supply chains.
Bangladesh exported apparel worth nearly US$47 billion in FY2025, while more
than 220 LEED certified green garment factories currently operate in the
country, the highest globally.
The initiative will support mills and garment units in
deploying advanced low energy machinery and cleaner manufacturing technologies.
Focus areas include carbon footprint reduction, energy optimisation, and long-term
competitiveness in international sourcing markets. Analysts expect such
collaborations to strengthen Bangladesh’s position in sustainable apparel
manufacturing and attract higher value global orders.
