India’s textile exports posted steady growth in May 2026, highlighting the sector’s resilience amid global demand uncertainties. Latest data released by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) showed textile exports rising 2.47% year on year to US$ 1.73 billion, supported by strong performances in handicrafts and cotton based products. Apparel exports, however, declined 14.17% to US$ 1.30 billion, reflecting weaker demand across key international markets.
Total textile and apparel exports stood at US$ 3.02 billion in May 2026, down 5.40% from a year earlier. During April to May 2026, textile exports increased 3.03% to US$ 3.40 billion, while apparel shipments fell 12.98% to US$ 2.51 billion. Handicraft exports emerged as a bright spot, surging 23.85% in May and 25.07% during the first two months of FY27. Textile and apparel contributed 6.69% of India’s total merchandise exports in May, compared with 8.35% a year earlier.
