India’s advanced textiles ecosystem is set for a major knowledge exchange event as the 5th International Conference on Functional Textiles and Clothing (FTC 2027) will be held from February 5 to 7, 2027, at IIT Delhi, New Delhi. Organized by the Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering, IIT Delhi, in association with the World University of Design, Sonipat, the conference will bring together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, innovators and technology developers from across the globe.

FTC 2027 will focus on high growth areas including smart textiles, wearable technologies, technical textiles, medical textiles, protective clothing, sustainable materials, nanotechnology, advanced fibre engineering, digital manufacturing and artificial intelligence-driven textile solutions. Previous editions attracted participants from nearly 80 universities worldwide, more than 20 countries and hundreds of technical experts, reflecting the conference’s growing international stature.

The event comes at a crucial time when the global smart textiles market is projected to surpass US$ 25 billion by 2030, while the global technical textiles market is expected to exceed US$ 350 billion. Industry experts believe innovation in functional textiles will play a pivotal role in supporting India's ambition of becoming a global hub for high value textile manufacturing, technical textiles and advanced materials.

FTC 2027 is expected to provide a strong platform for industry academia collaboration, technology commercialization, startup engagement and research partnerships that can accelerate the development of future ready textile products and sustainable manufacturing solutions.
