The
Ministry of Textiles has launched Handloom Hackathon 2026, a national
innovation challenge to drive technology, design and sustainable solutions for
India’s handloom sector.
Launched
as part of National Handloom Day 2026 celebrations, the initiative invites
students, startups, researchers, designers, entrepreneurs and handloom
practitioners to develop ideas that can improve competitiveness and create
scalable solutions for the sector.
Registrations
are open until 20 July. Shortlisted teams will showcase their innovations at
the grand finale on 1 August at FITT, IIT Delhi before an expert jury.
Development
Commissioner (Handlooms) Dr. M. Beena said the hackathon will connect India’s
youth with the heritage of handlooms, creating solutions to address sector
challenges and support sustainable growth.
