India’s textile industry is witnessing a new wave of
performance driven innovation as Ecolink Solutions introduces advanced Japanese
functional textile technologies designed to address heat stress, comfort,
sustainability and premium apparel demands. The company, in collaboration with
Japan based Murotani & Co. Ltd., showcased a range of next generation
fabrics at Bharat Tex 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Kartik Maheswaran, Director, Ecolink Solutions, said the
company’s approach is focused on solving real consumer challenges rather than
simply introducing new textile finishes. He highlighted that India, Bangladesh
and several Middle Eastern markets face severe heat and humidity challenges,
creating demand for textiles that provide cooling, moisture management and
enhanced comfort.
“Customers ultimately look for solutions that improve their
daily experience. The focus is not only on fabric development but on
understanding what the market truly needs,” Maheswaran said.
The company’s flagship innovation, CrossMint, represents a
breakthrough in cooling textile technology. Developed through Japanese
expertise, the technology combines mint based sensory cooling with xylitol
based thermal regulation to create an active cooling effect during
perspiration. The fabric technology can reduce skin temperature by up to 3 to
4°C and has been tested for durability up to 75 wash cycles.
CrossMint works by activating skin receptors through mint
extracts while xylitol capsules respond to moisture and sweating, creating an
enhanced cooling sensation. The technology becomes more effective during
physical activity, making it suitable for sportswear, industrial uniforms,
outdoor apparel, farming applications, construction workers and climate
adaptive clothing.
The Indian market presents a significant opportunity for
such innovations. According to industry estimates, India’s technical textiles
market is projected to grow from around US$25 billion in 2024 to nearly US$50
billion by 2030, driven by increasing demand for performance textiles,
healthcare materials, protective clothing and sustainable solutions.
Ecolink has developed a diverse portfolio of specialty
fabrics beyond cooling technology. One of the notable innovations is Cupro
based natural cooling fabric. Made from regenerated cotton linter, Cupro offers
excellent breathability, silky softness and sustainability benefits. The fibre
supports circularity by converting cotton waste into a premium textile
material.
Another unique development is Camellia processed Jacquard
fabric. The technology uses Camellia oil, widely recognised in luxury skincare
and haircare applications, to provide a smooth skin friendly finish without
relying on formaldehyde-based chemical treatments. The fabric is particularly
suitable for babywear, mother care products and sensitive skin applications.
The company is also offering innovative linen cotton blends
featuring a Pearl Soft mechanical finish. The process delivers a premium soft
hand feel through mechanical treatment rather than chemical finishing. This
technology provides the comfort and breathability associated with linen while
improving fabric structure and tailoring performance.
A special Japanese woven Tiger Jacquard fabric has also
attracted attention. The fabric uses advanced Jacquard weaving techniques to
create detailed tiger motifs directly into the textile structure, offering
designers a distinctive alternative to printed surfaces.
Ecolink’s collection also includes Washi paper blended
fabrics, inspired by Japan’s centuries old paper making traditions. The fabric
combines mulberry based paper fibres with cotton to deliver linen like
breathability, reduced wrinkling and a sharper garment silhouette. The
innovation addresses a common limitation of linen, which often lacks structured
tailoring characteristics.
Maheswaran said premium textile solutions require effective
communication of value to customers. While pricing remains a challenge in a
highly competitive market, he believes brands are increasingly willing to
invest in differentiated products that provide measurable benefits.
The partnership between Ecolink Solutions and Murotani &
Co. Ltd. is supported by Japanese textile specialist Yoshihiko Hyodo, Textile
Evaluation Specialist and Deputy Manager, Product Division. The collaboration
aims to bring Japanese precision, quality standards and sustainable textile
expertise to Indian manufacturers and brands.
Bharat Tex 2026 provided Ecolink an important platform to
connect with apparel brands, manufacturers and buyers. Maheswaran noted that
interactions at the exhibition revealed growing interest in functional fabrics
across multiple sectors, including premium apparel, sarees, healthcare textiles,
sleepwear and industrial applications.
The company is now expanding distribution channels to make
these technologies accessible to a wider market. Ecolink believes that climate
responsive textiles will become increasingly important as consumers and
industries seek solutions for rising temperatures, sustainability challenges
and improved everyday comfort.
The introduction of Japanese functional fabrics marks
another important step in India’s transition towards high value textile
manufacturing, where innovation, sustainability and performance are becoming
key drivers of future growth.
