Mumbai witnessed a strong display of innovation and
technical leadership as the India International Textile Machinery Exhibitions
Society hosted the third edition of the India ITME Technical Awards 2025. The
event brought together senior industry leaders, policymakers, technologists and
academicians, reinforcing the growing national emphasis on advanced
manufacturing and engineering excellence in textiles.
The awards ceremony was led by Ketan Sanghvi, Chairman and
Member of the Steering Committee of India ITME Society, and featured Roop Rashi
Mahapatra, Chief Executive Officer of the Khadi and Village Industries
Commission, Government of India. The gathering reflected a shared commitment to
innovation driven growth across the textile value chain.
Addressing the audience, Sanghvi noted that applications
this year reflected a strong startup mindset and fresh technical thinking among
young innovators. He said the platform aims to help transform engineering ideas
into scalable industrial solutions. Mahapatra highlighted that khadi and
traditional industries have emerged as engines of economic growth when aligned
with modern technology and design, creating sustainable livelihoods and
stronger enterprises.
Industry leaders echoed similar views. Neeraj Jain of
Vardhman Textiles pointed to rapid shifts in cotton sourcing and fabric
innovation that demand sharper technical insights. Edward Menezes of Rossari
Biotech underlined the importance of design led manufacturing, while Swati
Pandey of Maharashtra Airport Development Company stressed that innovation and
artificial intelligence are reshaping industrial competitiveness.
The awards recognised excellence across textile engineering,
sustainability, eco design and technology transfer. Winners included Yamuna
Machine Works, Zydex Industries, Prashant Gamatex, Rieter India and Maksteel
Wire Healds, alongside student innovators from leading institutions. Special
recognition was accorded to women leadership and sustainability centric
initiatives.
Supported by the Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Heavy
Industries, the India ITME Technical Awards continue to strengthen India’s
position as a global textile engineering hub. India’s textile and apparel
sector contributes nearly 2.3% to national GDP and employs over 45 million
people directly. Events such as these play a critical role in driving
productivity, exports and technology adoption across the industry.
