India Drives BRICS MSME Push Under 2026 Chairship

India is pushing a stronger agenda for MSME cooperation across BRICS economies during its 2026 Chairship, with a sharp focus on finance, inclusion and digital trade.

Under the BRICS Partnership on the New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR), India’s Ministry of MSME will host three SME Working Group meetings and the first-ever BRICS MSME Forum this year.

The first meeting was held virtually on April 24, 2026, centred on “Access to Finance for MSMEs”.

Key discussions focused on narrowing the MSME credit gap through financial inclusion, improving financial literacy and strengthening credit readiness. Another major theme was fintech-led systems to expand SME lending and enable smoother cross-border payments.

Officials from BRICS member countries shared policy experiences and highlighted common challenges in accessing timely and adequate credit.

The meeting reaffirmed MSMEs as critical drivers of jobs, innovation and growth, and called for deeper cooperation to build a more resilient and competitive MSME ecosystem across BRICS economies.
