India, Canada Advance CEPA Talks

India and Canada have concluded the second round of negotiations on the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), marking a fresh push to deepen bilateral trade ties.

The talks were held from May 4–8, 2026, in New Delhi at Vanijya Bhawan, under the Department of Commerce. Both sides said discussions were constructive and focused on building a balanced and mutually beneficial agreement.

Key areas covered included trade in goods and services, intellectual property, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and technical trade barriers.

The negotiations follow terms agreed by both trade ministers in March 2026, reinforcing a shared commitment to expand economic cooperation.

India and Canada agreed to continue engagement ahead of the next round scheduled for July 2026 in Ottawa, with interim discussions planned to maintain momentum.
