India, IFAD Unveil 8-Year Rural Growth Plan

India and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have launched a new eight-year strategy to strengthen rural incomes, resilience and sustainable livelihoods across the country.

The Country Strategic Opportunities Programme (COSOP) 2026–2033 was unveiled at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, as part of a broader push aligned with Viksit Bharat@2047.

The strategy focuses on two core priorities: building social, economic and climate resilience in rural communities, and scaling proven development models across India and other Global South countries.

Officials said the plan will strengthen grassroots institutions such as Self-Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations and cooperatives, improving access to finance, markets and technology.

Over the past two decades, IFAD-supported projects in India have expanded financial inclusion, improved market access and promoted women-led rural enterprises.

A key aim of the new framework is to shift from basic poverty reduction to sustainable, market-linked rural growth that can withstand climate and economic shocks.
