India is giving its Geographical Indication products a bigger passport. The MSME Ministry and DPIIT have joined hands to turn GI-tagged regional products into more commercially viable, export-ready businesses, with artisans, weavers and producer collectives at the centre. Under the new “Bharat GI” banner, GI products will be promoted through ONDC and GeM, while dedicated GI pavilions will be taken to domestic and international trade shows and buyer-seller meets. For India’s traditional textile and handloom clusters, this could mean moving from “made here” to “sold everywhere.”
